Many of you don’t know this, but this past year I’ve been serving as an elder at my church – First Presbyterian Church of Evanston.  It’s a great church, but over the last two years we’ve gone through some major transitions. We have been without a senior pastor for coming up on two years.

Serving in a parachurch ministry and being in a local church for many folks is a challenge. But I can honestly say I am very, very blessed at my church. I think it’s vitally important for my students to see my active participation in my local church, for it’s a model for them on how they can serve the Lord in their churches post graduation.

This past year, I’ve filled the pulpit of the church and was able to challenge the congregation to the next step in the life our congregation.  As an Elder, I’ve been able to bring my InterVarsity experience to serve as a leader as well as develop others in the congregation.  I’ve also been an active part of the our search committee for the church, looking for a new pastor to direct us in our next season.

Please pray for me as I continue to model for my students what healthy church involvement is like as well as to lead well in my congregation.
